Things I Have Learned From My Dad
· God will provide
· Psalm 91
· How to appreciate music that I used to dislike: Stevie Wonder, Nat King Cole, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Rey Valera, Hotdog, et al
· The importance of being ma-PR and having the right connections
· Not to date guys who have dirty cars, nyahahaha!
· Not to look down on probinsyanos and blue-collar workers
· Not to rush into decisions without considerable thought and time
· Pets relieve stress
· When in doubt, mag-SWOT analysis!
· The true meaning of pagtanaw ng utang na loob
· Leading by example
· Gratefulness. Life is good. We have it easier now compared to our parents’ generation.
· Putting individual wants over common needs (of the family) will make you miserable
· The advantage of growing up without too much is you always have more than what you started with.
· Good grooming. Wear crisp and wrinkle-free clothes to make a good impression.
· With great power (in my case, being panganay) comes great responsibility
· Fathers are strict for a reason: they love their children
· Fathers are smarter than they let you on
· Dads have a hard time opening up and expressing their emotions. Blame it on the whole “macho” culture. So take the initiative.
· Dads know when their kids are lying/making palusot. They’ve used the same excuses before.
· Being extra patient and loving to your parents during their midlife crisis years
· Perseverance and the right diskarte will get you places
· EQ is more important than IQ, especially in business
· Walang matigas na tinapay sa mainit na kape. Sometimes a little charm and lambing will get you want you want.
· Everything in moderation and appreciation
· Poverty isn’t an excuse for not being able to work one’s way up in life
· The best education comes from what you learn outside school
And my favorite lesson of all…
· Family is the most important thing in the world
Happy Fathers’ Day to the World’s Greatest Dad.
